G-pan / Y-shirts /
T-back
This is the first series I worked on for Nippon Series exhibition. A
name G-pan for Jeans has many theories in its origin, however it seems
the most established theory is that it is a short form of GI pants.
Y-shirt is a corrupted form of white shirt from English. T-back which
means 'Thong' or 'G-string' is a combination form of two words 'T-line'
and 'Back side'. These 3 symbolic words represented here are the 3
basic Japlish (an English word coined in Japan). In order to
materialize these Japlish, at first work was made by processing wood.
It was considered that wood was most suited material since it is easy
to acquire, process, and permanentness. For this piece cheapest type of
SPF wood from U.S., which became available in Japan from 10 years ago
were used. For the surface of the text oil stain was used and frames
are coated with general paint such as lacquer, water paint, and varnish.
